Description:
Major corporations collectively spend billions of
dollars on training and development. Their business strategies are
changing in response to changing external conditions. They are
constantly engaged in multiple change initiatives. In addition,
technology and globalization are changing the way people work. The
technology of training/learning is also rapidly changing, and training
departments are taking on new roles such as performance consulting.
In order to stay in alignment
with business goals, strategies, change initiatives, and technology,
every company should update its strategic plan for learning and
development every few years. This workshop offers a systematic approach
to strategic planning for learning and development. Ray Svenson has
applied and improved this process for more than 28 years working with
Fortune 500 companies. Participants will learn the process, practice
using a set of tools, and develop their own project plan for
implementing the process.
Methodology:
The goal of the workshop is for
the participants to create a project plan to apply the strategic
planning for learning and development process in their own
organization. They will also receive a set of tools for each phase of
the process. During the workshop, a process overview will be presented
with examples from real companies. Then the workshop will focus on each
phase of the process with participants developing their own project plan
and learning to use the tools as they go. We will use role plays, team
exercises, story telling and other interactive methods to engage the
participants. Each participant will complete a self assessment using
specific criteria to rate their achievement of the learning objectives.
This workshop works
very well in-house for a team of learning and development leaders from a
single organization to develop their own project plan.
